Quiksilver, the world’s leading fashion apparel brand with the deepest roots in the boardriding culture, introduces for the first time in China ‘Art on Foam’, an exhibition of 22 surfboards from some of the most renowned boardsport-inspired artists.
Born in Australia in 1969, Quiksilver sponsors the best athletes and the most prestigious events. Through the ‘Quiksliver Initiative’, a program developed to support environmental and cultural issues, the brand has aided the ensemble of Board Culture artists to bring the ‘Art on Foam’ exhibition to life.
The ‘Art on Foam’ exhibit owes its existence to the encounter between the Spacejunk Art Gallery in France and Quiksilver. Spacejunk is an assemblage of art centers managed by a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help the artists of the Board Culture expose their work.
The 22 artists with works on display here all make their living thanks to their artistic talent, but their personal work is shown far too infrequently. The Quiksilver ‘Art on Foam’ exhibition has finally given these 22 artists a chance to present their work to China, and also to introduce board riding culture and its roots in art to a wider audience.
The exhibition will include a variety of special activities certain to entertain the audience. There will be skateboard demos by the Quik China skate team; Che Lin, Johnny Tang and Fu Ling Chao (aka Thasher), Fashion shows, lucky draws and skateboard art competitions.
Additionally, limited edition T-shirts with images of the ‘Art on Foam’ surfboards will be available. These t-shirts will be sold through the Quiksilver Super Brand Mall store, with profits going directly to the Shanghai Charity Fundraiser Council.
