John Dickinson, president of i.e. distribution, stated: “We are excited to now own and operate World Industries, a brand with a rich heritage in the action sports market. Having worked with Globe over the past five years in developing the World Industries’ brand strategies, it is good to have i.e. distribution continue implementing these strategies. We believe with a sole focus on the Brand and proven by what we have accomplished with the footwear in North America, World Industries has tremendous growth potential.”
Mr. Dickinson was working at Globe in 2002 when Globe acquired World Industries subsequently leaving in November 2004 to form i.e. distribution with the purpose of licensing World Industries for footwear. Globe continued to sell the core action sports account base while i.e. distribution sold to the family shoe, department and sporting goods retailers. World Industries snowboards were sold under i.e. distribution to both distribution channels keeping World’s niche in the snow market. In addition i.e. distribution was hired to be the exclusive global licensing agent.
World Industries is one of the most recognized and oldest skate brands in the action sports market. Founded in 1987 by professional skateboarders Steve Rocco and Rodney Mullen, World Industries was the brand that re-defined skateboarding into a street based activity, and this in turn drove skateboarding’s massive growth through the 1990s. Today, the brand is a character driven youth oriented boardsports brand with a rich skateboarding heritage.
Acquisition financing was provided jointly by CIT and St. Cloud Capital LLC. “We are excited to be a part of the World Industries purchase from Globe International,” said Kacy Rozelle, a Managing Director of St. Cloud Capital. “We have confidence that Mr. Dickinson and his management team can really take the brand to the next level now that they are independent.”
Mr. Dickinson added, “With the brand firmly organized under one umbrella, and with our successful formula created under our former North American license, we are now actively pursuing International distributors in footwear, and licensees in new categories worldwide.”
