Shanghai ( October 3, 2008)- Vans is thrilled to announce our launch into China with the opening of the first stand alone retail store, located at 706 Changle Rd in Shanghai. The 40-square-meter store, featuring men’s and women’s footwear, apparel, and accessories, will open to the public just in time for China’s week-long National Day holiday from October 1-7th.
“Over the last several years Changle Road has developed into a popular shopping district for youth and street culture in Shanghai, which makes this location the ideal platform to showcase Vans products and heighten the exposure for the Vans brand Internationally,” said Mitchell Whitaker, Director of Vans Asia Pacific. “This store will offer consumers the chance to experience Vans’ 42 year old Southern California heritage while shopping in one of Shanghai’s premiere retail destinations.”
The Changle Road store design evolved from Vans’ heritage utilizing the wood, concrete, and steel evoking raw beauty- both natural and urban- of Southern California’s surf, skate, and youth lifestyle. The design cues communicate the key messages of creativity and self- expression through action sports and youth culture that constitute the Vans lifestyle. In addition to stand alone stores, Vans will be distributed into specialty lifestyle retailers throughout China.
