Fanling Skatepark - Hong Kong

Here is a post originally from 8five2.com about the newest skatepark in Hong Kong, currently the most popular skatepark here.

We tested this park last Saturday, & the park is AMAZING. So far, THE BEST skatepark in Hong Kong to date. The guys at Convic really did a great job for this park; from the design of the park to the actual smooth surface! It was smooth and super fast!! I felt so excited to skate this park, I could not stop, there were so many things I wanted to try out there, & there just wasn't enough time! I felt like a kid-in-a-candy-store all over again & was just stoked to skate there.

After skating this park, you wouldn't want to go back to some of the other skateparks in Hong Kong, it just shows what kind of difference a proper designed & built skatepark makes! It really puts to shame some of the other skateparks in Hong Kong, especially those that weren't built by skatepark companies. In fact, it is probably THE BEST park in Hong Kong right now.

The guys who designed & built this place skate themselves, from the top guy to the guys who hand poured & shaped the concrete, they know what's up. BIG Props to the guys at Convic! It really shows when you let the guys who know what they are doing design & build a skatepark. If you aren't sure what I mean, hop over to the BMX park nearby & check that out, then think how can one even ride a park like that one. Hong Kong should get an award for the best skatepark & worst skatepark(bmx park) virtually next door to each other; let this serve as a living example of building skateparks by people who know what they are doing vs. people who have no clue.

Good news is, the park has been completed, & is money well spent, HK$ 51 million to be exact. Big Ups to the LCSD (HK government) for this. Bad news is, it isn't open yet, & will be a month or two before the LCSD does open this to public. The Government needs to do some training courses for beginners in case some people skate the park & get hurt.
Hopefully, this will be fully open by November 2011.

Oh, there ain't any showers nor bathrooms at the park, so you gotta ask the park staff where the nearest toilet is if you need to go.....

First there was Mei Foo Park, then all the others, then this. In the last 10 + years, i witness the level of skateboarding in HK getting better & better. I can't wait to see the rippers who will spawn from this park!! In any case, I am in love with this park already. Thank you Hong Kong Govt!
