The spots, the people, the food, the culture: South America is truly unlike anywhere else in the world. Which is exactly why Converse headed down to Peru and Chile for Louie Lopez's first international trip with the team, joining Kenny Anderson, Zered Bassett, Tom Remillard, and Mike Anderson. Ripping skating in the streets, packed demos in the parks, and super good vibes all around, this is two weeks with the Converse family.
"Traveling really shows how someone adapts to their environment. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. I like when people freak out and can’t take it. And I also like when they can, when they adapt and take it all in. It’s like a social experiment. You can see the real side of people. You travel with different teams when you’re a pro skater, and they each have their own vibe. But with Converse, it’s not like we’re on a team. We’ve all been friends for a long time and now we’re on trips together. Converse is one big family.
"One of my favorite things about skating is going somewhere and turning a spot into a skate spot. For this trip, we went through Santiago, Chile and Lima, Peru. South America in general is filled with little gems. And that’s been the base of my travels for the last 10 years—just going to random places and finding new spots. I first started traveling internationally in 1998 and I haven’t stopped since. To me, that’s the best part about skateboarding. Not even for the spots, but just for the people. You can connect with someone wherever you’re at. If you can’t speak the language, you at least have the same tricks you can do. You have the same skate vocabulary. You’ll always have something in common." —Kenny Anderson
