1. Tell us something about you. Where are you from, what do you do in Korea? What's your skate story?
Hey, my name is Jin. I was born in Germany and raised under a Korean roof. I have been back and forth since high school and decided to move to Seoul three years ago. I started skateboarding when I was fourteen or fifteen. It was a great time to start, with text books like the old Girl/Chocolate videos, Trilogy and Modus.
2. Where did the mag idea come from and how did you do it?
Actually, I used to run an online blog for three years. I posted some writing, photos, skate parts, jazzy hip hop tunes and random art that I liked. It wasn't much, but I guess it became the foundation for the magazine. I like reading, and I enjoy the feel of holding a book or heavy magazine. I think there's an important value to print that should be remembered.
3. Why you can write story in English so well?
Thanks for reading, man! I had fun studying English in high school. Perhaps it had to with skateboard mags, too. They got me into reading English and writing my own stuff, also into photography, which I'm trying to pick up again. And I studied and lived in London for a year.
4. What connected you and vans China? How about your trip to house of vans in China?
I'm close to the guys at Vans Korea. Last year, when the Vans China team visited Korea, I was their tour guide. I got to know all the guys on the team, Yuan Fei and Tommy. Also, I sent over some issues to Vans China, and when it was time to find someone to report for the House of Vans events they contacted me. I couldn't make it to Xi'an and Guangzhou, but in Beijing, Seoul and Hong Kong we will have a small booth with The Quiet Leaf.
5. If we want to know something about Korean skateboarding, where should we go read or watch?
There are some great media in Korea. For example, dooonuts (dooonuts.com) is a rad website, not strictly about Korean skateboarding but based here and with a great selection. Daily Grind (dailygrind.kr) is a Korean online community that deals with mostly the local scene. And Unsung magazine is a local core magazine with local contents.
Unsung magazine.

6. Top 3 same or different things between China and Korean skateboarding?
While the skateboard culture has found many followers, I think the lifestyle as a skateboarder hasn't found its place yet. Both societies are very traditional and also result-orientated, which makes it hard for kids to commit to skateboarding.
All the large cities in China and Korea are full of undiscovered streets. We need more skaters to explore new spots and share and introduce them to the scene. The parks are great for practice and exercise, but I wish more skaters would take there skills into the streets.
Both scenes are not massively supported by the big brands, but I think things are slowly changing (see: Wish You Were Here by Vans). What's great about China, though, is that locals build up the scene by founding and supporting independent brands, by producing solid video parts etc.
7. What's the next contry you gonna go for your upcoming issue?
The next country will be the UK. I have some ideas in mind, but I still have to contact people and start building the contents.
