BOARDHEAD's newly-turned pro, Jiawei Li, decided to chill at the beach after the Grand Masters competition, rehabbing and skating. This new clip of him rocking Vans' latest skate shoes is super chill too.
Vans, the leading skateboarding brand, presents ‘Always Out There’, a campaign inspired by Vans' legacy of supporting skate culture and championing the next generation. Focused on the Upland, Hylane, and Mixxa, the collection draws from archival Y2K styles with modern upgrades for today’s generation of cultural leaders in skateboarding.
The ‘Always Out There’ Campaign leads with the Upland, an archival style first designed and released in 1999 updated with a new outsole that offers superior comfort with a chunky stance and underfoot support. The upper is crafted from leather and molded V logo that straddles retro design and modern footwear styling. Three colorways of the Upland will be dropped throughout the summer.
Next in the lineup is the Hylane — a Y2K skate-inspired shoe that reinterprets the Upland style from ‘99. The chunky silhouette and puffy tongue nod to the past alongside modern details including a 3D glossed Sidestripe and embroidered logos. Extra padding and improved underfoot support combine with modern materials for a comfortable and balanced fit, while an oversized Vans logo rounds out the look. The Hylane will be released in two colorways including black/white and green.
Rounding out the product offering is the Mixxa, a brand-new style that pays homage to the 1999 Vans shoe known as the Ehkks, famously worn by AJ Soprano in the popular series 'The Sopranos'. The Mixxa features a stitched-on cupsole, a padded tongue with a 'lace holder' overlay, wide flat laces, a puffy collar, and retro branding with bold color-blocking.
To relaunch the archival Y2K styles in 2024, Vans tapped into skate crews across global cities including New York, London and Tokyo to define ‘Off The Wall’ through a new generation. Beatrice Domond and her crew take on the Lower East Side of New York, Helena Long and friends represent legendary London skate shop Brixton’s Baddest, and Rio Morishige and the renewed Tightbooth crew out if Tokyo all represent the future: an informed, intelligent and style-forward generation not content to sit tight and let the world go by. Then and now, this mindset is a driver for progression in culture, skate and style.
